Course Overview
The North of England FRCS General Surgery Viva Course is designed specifically for surgical trainees preparing for the FRCS (General Surgery) exit examination. This intensive one-day course provides high-quality, examiner-led viva practice in a supportive yet challenging environment.
The course is led by current JCIE examiners and experienced consultant surgeons from across the Northern Deanery who understand exactly what examiners are looking for — and how to help you perform at your best on the day.
Each candidate receives structured feedback after each viva station, identifying areas of strength and topics requiring further consolidation. The course mimics the real examination format closely, giving you the confidence and technique you need to succeed.

Who is this Course For?
This course is intended for:
- ST6–ST8 General Surgery trainees preparing for the FRCS (General Surgery) Part 2 exit examination
- Surgical fellows who are eligible and planning to sit the examination within the next 6–18 months
- Candidates who have previously attempted the examination and wish to improve their viva technique
All delegates should have a solid foundation in general surgical knowledge and be actively working towards examination eligibility.
