About the Course
The course is designed primarily for ST6–ST8 General Surgery trainees and surgical fellows preparing for or eligible to sit the FRCS (General Surgery) exit examination. Candidates should have a solid grounding in general surgical knowledge. We also welcome candidates who have previously sat the examination and wish to strengthen their technique.
The course runs from 08:30 to 17:30 and consists of 8 structured viva stations, each run by an experienced examiner. Candidates rotate through the stations in small groups. After each station there is brief verbal feedback, with a written summary provided at the end of the day. The day also includes a working lunch, a group debrief session, and a high-yield topics discussion with faculty.
We strictly limit each course to 12 candidates. This ensures meaningful faculty time for every delegate and a realistic simulation of the examination setting.
The course is delivered by JCIE examiners and consultant surgeons and is aligned with the FRCS (General Surgery) examination curriculum. Participation can be recorded as CPD activity. Please check with your deanery regarding formal recognition.
